Sisu Taxi Oy – Background Check and Driving Record Consent Agreement

Purpose As part of our commitment to passenger safety and compliance with Finnish taxi licensing requirements, Sisu Taxi Oy ("Sisu") needs to ensure that every driver meets strict legal and safety standards. By acknowledging this agreement in the Sisu driver app, you ("Driver") grant Sisu permission to obtain and process certain background information and driving records relevant to operating as a taxi driver. These checks are strictly limited to what is necessary to confirm your legal eligibility and to maintain a safe service. Sisu will not conduct any background searches beyond what is required by applicable Finnish or EU law.

Scope of Checks Sisu may request and process the following records, as allowed by Finnish law and with your consent:
An extract of your criminal history from the Finnish Ministry of Justice or other official source, limited to convictions that are relevant to professional driving or public safety.
Verification of your driving licence, taxi driver licence and any required professional qualifications from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom) or other EU‑based licensing authority.
Confirmation of valid taxi insurance and vehicle registration, where applicable.

Only official Finnish registers or EU‑compliant databases will be used to obtain this information. Sisu will not use third‑party credit bureaus or consumer reporting agencies, nor will we check personal data unrelated to taxi driving. If you apply from another EU country, Sisu may seek equivalent licence and criminal record information from that country’s official authority.

Use of Information All personal data obtained in these checks will be used solely to:
Confirm that you hold the licences and permits required to operate a taxi. 
Verify that you have no criminal convictions or driving suspensions that would legally disqualify you from providing transport services.
Carry out our contractual obligations to passengers, drivers and authorities by ensuring a safe, lawful and reliable taxi service.

We do not use background‑check information for marketing or any unrelated purpose. We will never sell or share your background information with external parties except as required by Finnish law or to respond to lawful requests from regulators. If the checks reveal information that affects your eligibility, Sisu may deny or suspend access to the driver app. In such cases, you will be informed of the reason and given an opportunity to explain or correct any inaccuracies.

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR) Sisu relies on several lawful bases under the EU General Data Protection Regulation for processing background and driving‑record data:
Consent (Article 6(1)(a)) – By accepting this agreement in the app, you provide explicit consent for Sisu to obtain and process your driving and criminal records.
Contractual necessity (Article 6(1)(b)) – Background checks are necessary to perform our contract with you to provide the platform’s driver services.
Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)) – Finnish transport and taxi regulations require Sisu to verify driver eligibility and maintain appropriate records.
Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) – We have a legitimate interest in protecting passenger safety, preventing fraud and ensuring the integrity of our platform, provided that these interests are balanced against your rights and freedoms.

You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting Sisu using the details below; however, Sisu may not be able to continue your driver status if we cannot carry out legally mandated checks.

Driver Data Protection Rights Under the GDPR and Finnish data‑protection law, you have the following rights over your personal data:
Right to information – You can ask what personal data we hold about you and how we use it. 
Right of access – You can request a copy of your personal data, including the background‑check results. 
Right to rectification – If data about you is inaccurate or incomplete, you can ask us to correct it. 
Right to erasure – You may request that we delete your data when there is no legal basis for continued processing. 
Right to restrict processing – You can ask us to limit processing of your data in certain circumstances (for example, while you dispute its accuracy).
Right to object – You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. 
Right to data portability – You can request your data in a portable format where applicable.

To exercise these rights, contact our support team at support@sisu‑taxi.com or call +358 465 480 460. You also have the right to file a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto) if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.

Data Retention Background‑check data will be retained only for as long as necessary. In practice, we will keep the results for the period of your affiliation as a driver and for a limited time afterward to meet legal or contractual obligations (for example, for resolving disputes or audits). We maintain a documented retention policy to ensure compliance with GDPR and will securely delete or anonymize personal data when it is no longer needed.
